Important Changes to WINDA API – Act Now!
In March 2025, the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) introduced a new API gateway for WINDA. All users must migrate to the new system by September 30, 2025 at the latest.
What does this mean for you?
- New endpoints & updated authentication: Previous API documentation is no longer valid. All users must familiarize themselves with the new structure.
- Testing phase required: A successful migration in the test gateway is necessary before the final transition. Results must be submitted to GWO.
- Webinars for support: GWO offers several sessions to guide you through the migration process.

Migration to the new API gateway is crucial for the security, flexibility, and future-proofing of the WINDA data platform. Timely migration ensures that your systems continue to communicate smoothly and securely with WINDA.

New GWO Solar Standards: Safety and Technology for the Solar Industry
In March 2025, two new GWO standards for the solar industry were published:
- Solar Safety Training Standard (S-ST): Three modules on safety, first aid, and safe working practices.
- Solar Technical Training Standard (S-TT): Two modules on installation and electrical work.
These standards were developed in collaboration with the Global Solar Council and are based on risk analyses and real incidents. They are aimed at professionals in the utility-scale solar PV sector.

GWO Annual Report 2024: Record Training Numbers
The GWO Annual Report 2024 shows a significant increase in training activities:
- 190,720 active course participants worldwide
- 16% more training data compared to the previous year
- Average of 5.89 GWO training records per participant
These figures underscore the growing commitment to standardized training in the renewable energy industry.

New GWO High Voltage Standard: Safety in High Voltage Work
GWO has published the new High Voltage Standard, specifically developed for technicians working with high voltage systems in wind energy. The standard comprises two modules:
- High Voltage Operations (HVOP): Comprehensive 28-hour training on safe high voltage operations.
- High Voltage Cable Pulling (HVCP): 7-hour training on safe high voltage cable installation.
These modules build on existing GWO standards such as BTT Electrical and CoHE Electrical, ensuring technicians acquire the necessary skills and safety measures for high voltage work.

Updated Requirements for GWO Training Providers and Certification Bodies
As of April 1, 2025, updated versions of the "Requirements for Training" and "Requirements for Certification" have been published. These contain significant innovations relevant to all training providers and certification bodies.
What's new?
- Revised instructor qualification requirements: Instructor qualifications have been clarified to ensure higher quality and consistency in training.
- New participant assessment requirements: Clear guidelines have been introduced for assessing participant performance during training.
- Introduction of the REcognition program: This new program enables systematic assessment and recognition of instructor and training provider competencies.

WINDA API – Migration to New Gateway Required
As of April 1, 2025, the new WINDA API gateway supports the updated requirements of "Requirements for Training V15". All users must migrate to the new system by September 30, 2025 at the latest. Previous endpoints are no longer available.
What's new?
- New endpoints: Including endpoints for uploading training data and retrieving course information.
- Updated documentation: WINDA API documentation V4.0 has been updated accordingly.
- Webinars: GWO offers sessions to guide you through the migration process.

High Voltage Standard 2025: Upcoming Introduction Webinars
In July 2025, the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) will host two webinars introducing the new High Voltage Standard. These are aimed at technicians working with high voltage systems in the wind energy industry.
The webinars will be led by Thomas Redmond, Training Project Manager at GWO, and will include contributions from members of the High Voltage Working Group. The key content of the new standard will be presented, and there will be time for participant questions.
The webinars will focus on safe working practices for high voltage operations and cable installation under a Safe System of Work (SSoW).

Public Consultation on New IQT Standard – Your Opinion Counts!
The Global Wind Organisation (GWO) invites public consultation on the revised Instructor Qualification Training (IQT) Standard until September 5, 2025. The standard is aimed at instructors in the wind energy industry.
Key changes:
- Unified learning objectives: IQT and IQTX modules now share the same learning objectives for consistent qualification.
- New module structure: Learning activities are consolidated in the "IQ Standard Guide for Learning Activities" for greater flexibility in lesson planning.
- Updated assessment forms: Assessment forms for "teach-back" sessions now apply to both modules.
- Revised IQTT training: The five-day program has been optimized to further improve training quality.
Training providers, instructors, and interested parties can submit feedback that will inform the further development of the standard.

GWO CoHE Standard: Public Consultation Launched
The Global Wind Organisation (GWO) has opened the public consultation on the revised Control of Hazardous Energies (CoHE) Training Standard. Training providers, members, and all interested parties can submit feedback on the draft until October 24, 2025.
What's new?
- Module reduction: The CoHE standard is being reduced from three to two modules to make training more efficient.
- Revised content: The draft contains updated content and structure aimed at improving the safety and quality of training.
Why is this important?
The CoHE standard is an essential component of the GWO training framework and supports safe working practices in environments where hazardous energies are present. The update ensures the standard continues to meet the highest safety and training quality standards.
